Remedios is a small, tranquil town, located just 5 km from the northern coast of Cuba. While it stays quiet and lazy throughout the whole year, the vibe changes during Christmas Eve when Remedios goes berserk in a firework festival known as Las Parrandas. Combining Cuban spirit and lack of general health and safety rules, the celebration might result in some accidents and injuries. Without the context one may also confuse whether it's a massive festival or uncontrollable disorders.
Festivities kick off at 5pm, when the city’s two traditional neighbourhoods: El Carmen and El Salvador gather together to compete against each other in displays of fireworks, which are more of huge flares going different directions. The competition is followed by dance, parade and further fireworks shows.
